First Day Wrap-Up

September 5th, 2006

Whew! We made it through our first day.  And not just any ordinary first day – a full long first day.  I know the kids heads were spinning with all letters we handed out today.  It can be overwhelming.  There is a lot to go over at school and then when they get home you have a stack of things to read.  Everything in the pile is very important.  Please take the time to read it carefully.  I had so much fun meeting everyone today.  What a whirlwind of names.  My goal is to have a really good grasp on all the names by the end of the week.  One of the students told me today that they are having a hard time remembering their three teachers’ names.  I just chuckled thinking about the ninety some names I will be learning this week.
As the days go on this week getting up will be harder and harder.  But if the kids are anything like me they get tired earlier every night and are ready for bed.  It is nice that are first week back is only a four day week.

I just want to remind everyone about our middle school Open House next Thursday, September 14th.  It starts at 6 p.m.  All of the sixth grade parents will meet first in the cafeteria.  I hope to see everyone there.

Here is my last supply update:

I didn’t find many of the supplies on sale except the flash drives.  I do know however that Target’s regular price for composition books is $.50.  They also had 5 divider tabs in a pack really cheap the last time I was there, but I don’t remember their regular price.  So I am only listing links to the flash drive sales.

Circuit City – 512 MB – $14.99        or           1 GB – $21.99 (Wow!)

Office Max – 512 MB – $14.99 – No Rebates!       or       256 MB – $9.99 – No Rebates!

or   1GB – $24.99 – No Rebates!

Binders are also 25% off at Office Max.  I don’t know regular prices there so I don’t know if this is a good deal.

Best Buy – 1 GB – $24.99  – There is also a $15 rebate not listed on the web site.

Staples – Composition Books – $.99

Divider Tabs – $1.99

512 MB – $14.98 – No Rebates!               or            1 GB – $24.98 – No Rebates!

***** Best Deal of the Week! *****

Comp USA – 1 GB – $17.88 & No Rebates!

[...] I think that it is great that you are asking your students to have a jump drive as part of their school supplies. Given the work that we did this summer, I think that this is an incredibly practical idea and I look forward to seeing how this works out for you over the course of the school year. I am interested in knowing how parents and students respond to this request as well as the kinds of projects that you plan to do that will require them to save with the jump drives. Good luck to you and your students as things get underway – keep us updated! [...]
